SHIFT LEVER ASSEMBLY (for Column Shift Type) > REMOVAL

1. PRECAUTION

NOTICE:
After turning the ignition switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal notice before proceeding with work (Click here)


2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

CAUTION:
Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.


3. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE LH (for Regular Cab)

  1. Detach the 6 claws and 3 clips, and remove the front door scuff plate.



4. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE LH (for Double Cab, CrewMax)

  1. Detach the 6 claws and 3 clips, and remove the front door scuff plate.



5. REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM BOARD LH

  1. Remove the clip.

  1. Detach the 2 clips and remove the cowl side trim board.



6. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY LH

  1. Remove the hood lock control lever.

  1. Remove the 2 bolts.

  1. Detach the 9 clips and claw.

  1. for Automatic Air Conditioning System:
    Detach the 2 claws and remove the sensor.

  1. Remove the finish panel and then disconnect the connectors.



7. REMOVE LOWER NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL AIR BAG ASSEMBLY

  1. Remove the 4 bolts and remove the instrument panel airbag.

  1. Detach the 2 claws and disconnect the DLC3.

  1. Disconnect the connector.

    NOTICE:
    When handling the airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.


8. REMOVE STEERING PAD (w/o Steering Pad Switch)

  1. Using a T30 "TORX" socket wrench, loosen the 2 screws until the groove along the screw circumference catches on the screw case.

  1. Pull out the steering pad from the steering wheel, as shown in the illustration. Then support the steering pad with one hand.

    NOTICE:
    When removing the steering pad, do not pull the airbag wire harness.
  1. Disconnect the 2 connectors and remove the steering pad.

    NOTICE:
    When handling the airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.


9. REMOVE STEERING PAD (w/ Steering Pad Switch)

  1. Using a T30 "TORX" socket wrench, loosen the 2 screws until the groove along the screw circumference catches on the screw case.

  1. Pull out the steering pad from the steering wheel, as shown in the illustration. Then support the steering pad with one hand.

    NOTICE:
    When removing the steering pad, do not pull the airbag wire harness.
  1. Disconnect the 2 connectors and remove the steering pad.

    NOTICE:
    When handling the airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.


10. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY
  1. Remove the steering wheel set nut.

  1. Put matchmarks on the steering wheel and main shaft.

  1. Using SST, remove the steering wheel.

11. REMOVE LOWER STEERING COLUMN COVER

  1. Remove the 2 screws.

  1. Detach the 2 claws to remove the lower steering column cover.



12. REMOVE UPPER STEERING COLUMN COVER

  1. Detach the 4 clips.

  1. Detach the claw to remove the upper steering column cover.



13. REMOVE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH ASSEMBLY WITH SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY

  1. Disconnect the 5 connectors from the turn signal switch with spiral cable.

  1. Using pliers, grip the claws of the clamp and remove the turn signal switch with spiral cable from the steering column.



14. REMOVE COLUMN SHIFT ASSEMBLY
  1. Move the shift lever to the N position.

  1. Disconnect the column shift transmission control cable end from the column shift.

  1. Disconnect the connector and detach the harness clamp.

  1. Using a T30 "TORX" wrench, remove the 3 bolts and column shift.
