STEERING WHEEL (for Hatchback) > REMOVAL

CAUTION:
Some of these service operations affect the SRS airbag system. Read the precautionary notices concerning the SRS airbag system before servicing the steering column (Click here).


1. PRECAUTION

NOTICE:
After turning the ignition switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal notice before proceeding with work (Click here).


2. FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD


3. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

CAUTION:
Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.


4. REMOVE STEERING PAD

5. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY

  1. Remove the steering wheel assembly set nut.

  1. Put matchmarks on the steering wheel assembly and the steering main shaft.

  1. Disconnect the connectors from the spiral cable.

  1. Using SST, remove the steering wheel assembly.

    09950-50013   (09951-05010, 09952-05010, 09953-05020, 09954-05021)

    NOTICE:
    Apply a small amount of grease to the threads and tip of SST (center bolt) before use.


6. REMOVE STEERING PAD SWITCH ASSEMBLY (w/ Steering Pad Switch)

  1. Remove the 2 screws.

  1. Disengage the 4 claws and 4 guides and remove the steering pad switch assembly from the steering wheel assembly.



7. REMOVE CRUISE CONTROL MAIN SWITCH (w/ Cruise Control System)

  1. Disconnect the connector.

  1. Remove the 2 screws and the cruise control main switch.

  1. Disconnect the connector and remove the cruise control switch wire.



8. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL LOWER BOSS COVER

  1. Disengage the 4 claws and remove the steering wheel lower boss cover.
