DTC    P0607    Control Module Performance

for Preparation Click here

DESCRIPTION

The ECM continuously monitors its internal processors (CPUs) and heated oxygen sensor transistors. This self-check ensures that the ECM is functioning properly. Malfunctions are diagnosed by internal "mirroring" of the main and sub CPUs to detect processor errors. If outputs from the processors deviate from the standard, the ECM will illuminate the MIL and store a DTC immediately.

  1. Stop the engine for 30 minutes or more [A].
  2. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the Techstream on [B].
  4. Clear the DTCs (even if no DTCs are stored, perform the clear DTC operation).
  5. Turn the ignition switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.
  6. Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the Techstream on [C].
  7. Start the engine and wait 2 minutes [D].
  8. Warm up the engine until the engine coolant temperature is 75°C (167°F) or higher [E].
  9. Idle the engine for 1 minute [F].
  10. Accelerate the vehicle to 80 km/h (50 mph) and stop the vehicle [G].
  11. Drive the vehicle at a speed between 56 and 80 km/h (35 and 50 mph) for 5 minutes or more [H].
  12. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes [I].
  13. Read the pending DTCs.

    HINT:
    1. If a pending DTC is output, the system is malfunctioning.
    2. If a pending DTC is not output, perform the following procedure.
  14. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Utility / All Readiness.
  15. Input the DTC: P0607, P0136, P0137, P0138, P0156, P0157 or P0158.
  16. Check the DTC judgment result.

    Techstream Display
    Description
    NORMAL
    1. DTC judgment completed
    2. System normal
    ABNORMAL
    1. DTC judgment completed
    2. System abnormal
    INCOMPLETE
    1. DTC judgment not completed
    2. Perform driving pattern after confirming DTC enabling conditions
    N/A
    1. Unable to perform DTC judgment
    2. Number of DTCs which do not fulfill DTC preconditions has reached ECU memory limit

    CAUTION:
When performing the confirmation driving pattern, obey all speed limits and traffic laws.

    HINT:
    1. If the judgment result shows ABNORMAL, the system has a malfunction.
    2. If the judgment result shows INCOMPLETE or N/A, perform steps [E] through [I] again.
  17. If no pending DTC is output, perform a universal trip and check for permanent DTCs (Click here).

    HINT:
    1. If a permanent DTC is output, the system is malfunctioning.
    2. If no permanent DTC is output, the system is normal.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

HINT:
Read freeze frame data using a Techstream. Freeze frame data records the engine condition when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air-fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.
1.CHECK FOR ANY OTHER DTCS OUTPUT
  1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

  1. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

  1. Turn the Techstream on.

  1. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.

  1. Read the DTCs.

2.INSPECT DTC (P0136, P0137, P0138, P0156, P0157 OR P0158)
  1. Refer to the P0136, P0137, P0138, P0156, P0157 or P0158 flowchart.

    HINT:
    1. If P0136 or P0156 is output, troubleshoot for that DTC first (Click here). Then proceed to "Inspect ECM".
    2. If P0137 or P0157 is output, troubleshoot for that DTC first (Click here). Then proceed to "Inspect ECM".
    3. If P0138 or P0158 is output, troubleshoot for that DTC first (Click here). Then proceed to "Inspect ECM".
    4. If DTC P0607 and P0136, P0137, P0138, P0156, P0157 or P0158 are output, the output voltage of the heated oxygen sensor may remain close to 0 V or become high (around 1 V or higher).

3.CHECK FOR EXHAUST GAS LEAK
  1. Allow the engine to idle, and then rev the engine.

  1. Check for exhaust gas leaks around the heated oxygen sensor.
If any exhaust gas leaks are present, repair them and proceed to "Perform Confirmation Driving Pattern". If no exhaust gas leaks are present, proceed to "Perform Confirmation Driving Pattern".

    HINT:
    1. If no exhaust gas leaks are present, there may be a malfunction in the heated oxygen sensor circuit.
    2. If any exhaust gas leaks are present around the heated oxygen sensor, noise appears in the output voltage of the heated oxygen sensor.
    3. Perform "Inspection After Repair" after repairing or replacing the exhaust system (Click here).
