1. INSPECT GENERATOR ROTOR ASSEMBLY |
Check the rotor for an open circuit.
Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
- Standard Resistance:
100 A Type and 130 A Type Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition Slip ring - Slip ring 20°C (68°F) 2.3 to 2.7 Ω 150 A Type Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition Slip ring - Slip ring 20°C (68°F) 1.5 to 1.9 Ω
Check if the rotor is grounded.
Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
- Standard Resistance:
Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition Slip ring - Rotor Always 10 kΩ or higher
Check that the slip rings are not rough or scored.
If rough or scored, replace the rotor assembly.
Using a vernier caliper, measure the slip ring diameter.
- Standard diameter:
- 14.2 to 14.4 mm (0.559 to 0.567 in.)
- Minimum diameter:
- 14.0 mm (0.551 in.)
2. INSPECT GENERATOR BRUSH HOLDER ASSEMBLY |
Using a vernier caliper, measure the exposed brush length.
- Standard exposed length:
- 10.5 mm (0.413 in.)
- Minimum exposed length:
- 4.5 mm (0.177 in.)
3. INSPECT GENERATOR DRIVE END FRAME BEARING |
When rotating the bearing, check that there is no abnormal noise and that it rotates smoothly.
If necessary, replace the bearing.
4. REPLACE GENERATOR DRIVE END FRAME BEARING |
Remove the 4 screws and retainer plate.
Using SST and a hammer, tap out the bearing.

Using SST and a press, press in a new bearing.

Install the retainer plate with the 4 screws.
- Torque:
- 2.3 N*m{ 23 kgf*cm , 20 in.*lbf }
5. INSPECT GENERATOR ROTOR BEARING |
When rotating the bearing, check that there is no abnormal noise and that it rotates smoothly.
If necessary, replace the generator rotor.
